Dynamic Domain Name Service (DDNS)

Each computer connected to the Internet has a numerical value that uniquely identifies it. This numeric value is called the IP address.

It consists of four numbers separated by dots, each number may be from one to three digits. For example: 83.484.27.905.

When you connect to the Internet, your equipment receives a dynamic IP address. It is not permanent, because the next time you connect you will receive a different address, then a third and so on. Of course there will be IP-addresses from a certain range, but what exactly IP address you get on the next connection is not known in advance.

Domain Name System (DNS - domain name system) allows you to map a domain name (which is easy to remember) with an IP address. Thanks to DNS, we type usable domain names into the address bar of the browser, and not hard-remembered IP-addresses. An example of such a domain name is the name of our website:

https://my-name.space.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with dynamic IP addresses if you need it just for access to the Internet from your computer. However, let's take the reverse task - remote access from the Internet to your computer. How do we make connection to our home computer from another computer? For this purpose, we will need DDNS.

This service allows you to track the changes in our IP address and make sure that our domain name is associated with the current IP address of our computer. So we just need to remember only the domain name of the computer, and DDNS will take care about the constant association of the current IP address with this name.
